Background
As part of Secto Rally Finland (31 July–2 August), Cefmof created Hydrogen Pitstop, a city-wide event designed to introduce the public to practical hydrogen applications. The event aimed to make hydrogen visible, understandable, and tangible for citizens by placing real-world examples directly into Jyväskylä’s everyday urban spaces.
Objectives
Hydrogen Pitstop set out to raise awareness and understanding on hydrogen by demonstrating use cases in everyday applications: cooking, relaxation, public transport, and leisure.
The event aimed to:
- Facilitate exploration across multiple sites to give a broad view on hydrogen’s potential
- Offer clear, approachable entry points into hydrogen mobility, energy, and consumer applications with hands-on experiences
- Connected citizens with local hydrogen developments through activities accessible to everyone
Action
Hydrogen Pitstop transformed three central locations in Jyväskylä into hydrogen experience points, each highlighting different aspects of hydrogen use:
- At Kirkkopuisto Park, visitors took a fun hydrogen-themed quiz and enjoyed pizza freshly baked in a hydrogen-powered oven.
- At Harbour Park (Satamapuisto), visitors could explore a real hydrogen bus, treat themselves to ice cream and hydrogen-roasted coffee, and unwind in a hydrogen sauna.
- At Ruusupuisto, visitors could experience hydrogen mobility in miniature size with hydrogen-powered RC cars, explore the World of Hydrogen exhibition, and conclude their visit with a tasty hamburger grilled using hydrogen.
Free hydrogen bus transport
Free hydrogen bus services connected the locations from Palokka, Vaajakoski, and Keljo, enabling visitors to experience multiple stops throughout the event.
Sticker rally
Every Hydrogen Pitstop location offered a unique event sticker. Visitors could collect a sticker at each of the three locations and completed their stamp rally pass. The sticker rally encouraged visitors to explore the full set of activities and better understand hydrogen’s diverse applications.
